Securing your denture

It is possible to anchor a denture to implants. This can be an excellent way to improve the function and stability of your denture.

Benefits of Dentures

Dentures restore your ability to eat, speak, and smile confidently. They also help maintain the shape of your face by supporting your facial muscles.

Types of dentures available at Sycamore House Dental Practice

1. Complete, Full Dentures

Used when all teeth are missing in the upper or lower jaw (or both).

Full dentures are typically made of acrylic and are held in place by suction or adhesives.

They consist of a gum-coloured acrylic base that fits over the gums and supports a full set of artificial teeth.

2. Partial Dentures

Used when only some teeth are missing, while natural teeth remain in place.

Partial dentures are attached to a plastic or metal framework that rests on the remaining teeth. They often have clasps or precision attachments that help keep them secure.

They help fill gaps between teeth, preventing other teeth from shifting and improving chewing ability.

3. Immediate Dentures

These are temporary dentures placed immediately after teeth are removed. They allow patients to have teeth while their gums heal from extractions.

After healing, immediate dentures are typically replaced with conventional full dentures that fit better.

4. Implant-Supported Dentures

These dentures are anchored to dental implants that are surgically placed in the jaws.

They offer more stability and support than traditional dentures, making them less likely to slip or move.

Dentures are a functional and cosmetic solution for tooth loss, helping people maintain a better quality of life and oral health.

Dentures FAQs

Restore chewing and speaking ability: Missing teeth can make eating and speaking difficult, and dentures help restore these functions.

Improve appearance: Dentures restore facial structure and give the appearance of a full set of teeth, which enhances a person’s smile and facial aesthetics.

Prevent shifting of remaining teeth: Partial dentures can prevent remaining natural teeth from shifting into gaps, maintaining proper alignment.

eds.

Daily cleaning: Dentures should be removed and cleaned daily with a soft brush and mild denture cleanser to avoid plaque buildup and staining.

Soaking overnight: Acrylic dentures should be soaked in water or a denture solution when not in use to prevent drying and warping. Soaking overnight is not required for metal or nylon dentures.

Regular dental check-ups: Dentures need to be checked periodically by a dentist to ensure a proper fit and to adjust for any changes in the shape of the gums or jaw which may occur over time.
