How Clear aligners work

Clear aligners use a series of clear, removable aligners that gradually shift your teeth into place. Each aligner is custom-made to fit your teeth accurately.

Benefits of Clear aligners

Invisalign® aligners are comfortable, removable, and virtually invisible, making them a popular choice for many of our patients.

Your clear aligners journey

1. Initial consultation

During your visit with one of our experienced Clear Aligner & Invisalign® accredited dentists, you can tell us about your wishes and expectations. Your dentist will carry out a detailed assessment, discuss the most suitable treatment solution for you and give you an idea of costs.

2. Exploring the options

Once you know that Clear aligners are a good option for you and you are happy to proceed, we will take photographs, impressions of your teeth and X-rays.  These are used to plan your treatment in greater detail and produce a 3D computer simulation of the achievable result.

3. You approve the 3D simulation

About 1 week after this, the clear aligners are ready to be fitted. We will schedule an appointment to fit your aligner so you can get started. We will normally schedule monthly review visits to track progress.

4. Reaching your final aligner

At this stage, your dentist will take an impression or perform a scan which is then used to make a retainer, so your teeth stay in their new position.

Invisalign® Clear Aligners FAQs

You should remove your clear aligners when eating or drinking anything other than water. Eating with aligners in can damage your aligners. To maintain oral hygiene and prevent plaque buildup, brush your teeth before reinserting the aligners.

Clear aligners, including Invisalign® and Reveal®, may cause a slight lisp when you first start wearing them. This is a common occurrence, and most people adapt within a couple of days, with speech returning to normal.

The average cost of Invisalign® treatment typically ranges from £2,500 to £5,000 depending on the complexity of the case and the duration of treatment. It's best to consult with your dentist for a personalized quote. At Sycamore House Dental we offer 0% credit over 12 months, so you are able to spread the cost of your treatment.

Treatment can normally be completed within three to nine months. Each case is completely customised, so the number of aligners varies from person to person.  The fee quoted for your treatment at Sycamore House Dental, includes additional aligners you might need in case of revisions being required to achieve the desired final result.

While Invisalign® offers many advantages, some downsides include the need for discipline in wearing the aligners for the recommended time each day (except for when you are eating), potential discomfort when changing aligners, and the necessity of removing them when eating.

Invisalign®, other clear aligner systems and traditional metal braces all have their advantages. Clear aligners are less visible so can be removed for eating and cleaning, while traditional braces may be more effective for complex orthodontic issues. The best choice depends on individual needs. Your dentist will be able to guide you to the most appropriate treatment for you.

Invisalign® treatment may cause some discomfort or pressure, especially when starting with a new set of aligners. This is typically mild and temporary. If you experience significant pain, consult your dentist for advice.

Yes, definitely you should wear your Invisalign® aligners while sleeping. For the treatment to be effective, aligners need to be worn for 20-22 hours a day, including while you sleep. This ensures that your teeth move as planned and treatment progresses on schedule.

Teeth have a natural tendency to move so you will need to wear retainers for the first few months after completing your orthodontic treatment and maybe longer term. If you do not wear your retainers your teeth can move unpredictably. Your treatment quote will include a set of retainers for you to use fulltime after you complete your clear aligner treatment.
